Sorry for the lack of a post yesterday. The day passed by so quickly that by the time I got to my laptop, it was too late.
Afternoon all,
The Liverpool result has died down now and I am pleased to report loads of optimism from Arsenal supporters. After what was 2 solid if not spectacular performances against Sunderland and Stoke, the Liverpool game provided a bit of both. Another clean sheet with 2 goals to go with it. Obviously there is still work to be done, but if we can lay the appropriate foundations heading into what will be a long season, I see no reason why we cannot challenge.
I was very upset on Saturday morning with the lack of investment into the squad. Cazorla, Podolski and Giroud were excellent additions but we needed 2 or 3 more if we realistically wanted to challenge. I now see why Wenger decided not to splash the cash, even though I may not agree with his theory. Abou Diaby played out of his skin on Sunday, breaking up attacks and marauding forward in a similar vein to Yaya Toure. If he can stay fit and play as well as he did on Sunday throughout the season, I feel we will be well packed in the middle. I say I don't agree with Arsene's theory because of one simple reason: All the ifs. IF we don't get too many injuries. IF we have enough goals in 2 foreign strikers. IF Jack Wilshere will come back firing. I am all for taking risks but has Arsene gone too far? Only time will tell.
We won't be seeing any Arsenal football this weekend thanks to the World Cup qualifiers. Its so frustrating. We have just gotten going, our squad is starting to click and everything looks positive on the injury side and now our players all have to travel to their respective venues to play 2 games in the space of a week. The thing about having a quality squad also means that majority have been called up. Abou Diaby has been picked for France, though I doubt he'll feature prominently due to his injury record. Somewhat surprisingly Kieran Gibbs wasn't selected for the England squad. He's been really good these past 2 weeks, defending well and also contributing to attack. He may not be better than Baines at the moment, but with Ashley looking old now, Gibbs could be the perfect long term replacement.
Lets hope this interlull doesn't drag on too much!
'Till Tomorrow
