Morning all,
The Arsenal optimism has completely died down, just 2 dies after signing a world class creative midfielder. This is what we have become accustomed to. Now the headlines are all on Robin Van Persie and Manchester United. Last night, Sir Alex Ferguson came out with some ridiculous and rather delusional quotes. He says that they have made a bid and that we aren't or haven't gotten back to them yet. He says that we are trying to negotiate with other clubs. Of course we are, why would we want to sell him to our English rivals? In fact, rumour has it that we are charging them 5mil more than we charged Juventus. Apparently he has turned down the chance to go to Italy and to Man City so he only has one choice and that would be United. I wonder if he thinks that joining United over City would soften the blow for Arsenal fans or convince us that he isn't after the money. But he is doing exactly the opposite in my opinion. United pay their players just as much as City do and if Robin gets what he wants he will be earning around 200k a week for 4 years. Couple that with the 25mil transfer fee and you get one hell of an expensive 29 year old injury prone striker. In fact you get a 66mil striker. That is why this transfer doesn't make any sense. United need a midfielder and a left back. They already have Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandez, Berbatov so why do they need another striker? Especially a striker in his twilight? United don't guarantee players trophies anymore either. They never won a thing last year and the likes of PSG, City and Chelsea are getting stronger. Couple that with the 2 superpowers of Real Madrid and Barcelona and throw in Juventus they have a bucket load of opposition. That's not to say that Arsenal don't have a chance either. In my opinion and being as unbiased as possible, I believe that we have a better squad than United. That's if Van Persie were to stay. We have a better midfield and a better strike force. The defense is the one concern when comparing the 2 sides but I expect us to be a whole lot better with a fit back 4 and Steve Bould steering the ship. City are now more likely to win trophies and as hard as that is to say, it is the truth. Joining our arch enemy's - not including Spurs - is not acceptable and he'll get a much worse reception than Nasri, Adebayor, Clichy, Toure, Viera ever did.
But that is all if he is leaving. And I have a weird feeling that he won't. He asked for ambition, he asked for strengthening and he has got it so far. Not to say that we bought these players for him but we have bought them none the less. And we are going for 2 more players as well. Most likely a holding midfielder and a defender. So whats the problem Robin? We have as good a chance of winning a trophy as the next club, its you that is putting us in danger of missing out. Our chances reduce drastically next season if he leaves, especially if we don't find an adequate replacement. Its up to him now. Does he want to be a fan hero and be remembered forever? Or does he want to be the enemy, where everything he ever did will be forgotten?
We are reportedly after 2 more players, a midfielder and a defender. Nuri Sahin is the midfielder we're after. He is a strong tackler, a deep creative player and a hard worker. A perfect short term replacement for Wilshere until he returns. We are also in need of a right back. Sagna has endured 2 leg breaks and isn't expected back until October. There is no telling about the set backs he may have and we need to be prepared. Jenkinson is not an able replacement and neither is Coquelin or Yennaris, as able as they might seem. We need a long term replacement for Sagna. I have no clue who that would be but I'm sure Arsene does.
That's it for the morning. More tomorrow.
'Till Then
