Afternoon
The obvious topic of discussion for all Arsenal fans at the moment is Santi Cazorla. A world class player on the verge of being confirmed as an Arsenal player, it is only natural that all fans are excited and that is what we've been calling for for the last few years. As it is not confirmed yet, the article about how our midfield and attack is shaping up for next year will have to wait. This leaves me in a rather awkward position. I have spoken about Cazorla for the last few days so there is not much left to say. He is a diminutive player and a type Arsene loves. As versatile a Spanish midfielder will ever get, and he disproves the saying 'jack of all trades master of none'. He is able to play as a deep playmaker, on either wing - he is 2 footed - and in the hole. He adds genuine quality and attacking flair to a side which is often accused of being one-dimensional. He won't be the last addition either, I believe. Nuri Sahin, Victor Wanyama, Sakho and others are still being linked with the club and I would think that Sahin is the most likely of the trio. M'Vila is available for around 15mil, and considering the fact we bid 25mil last summer it seems strange that we aren't choosing to go for him.
With 3 quality signings so far - assuming Cazorla is confirmed - the squad is looking in tip top shape. As good as it has been in the last 5 years. I wonder what Robin was thinking when he met Cazorla this morning at the training ground. I wonder if he even cares what signings we get in. For all we know he is in it for the money and no matter what we do we won't convince him to reconsider. Imagine if we had Giroud, Podolski and van Persie competing up front for the slot, with Cazorla, Walcott, Gervinho, Chamberlain etc.. complementing that. A guy can dream.
I'm not sure when but we are going to Germany for a training camp soon. Next Saturday we are playing Cologne, no doubt it is the first time we will see the new signings. Hopefully that includes Cazorla. Apparently van Persie is coming as well. That should be interesting.
Nothing else on today..
'Till Tomorrow
