This is just getting annoying. I have never seen anything like this transfer in recent years, such is the up and down nature of the deal. Of course, I am talking of Nuri Sahin. The initial speculation started last month and intensified in recent weeks. Until then his destination was Liverpool. We then sold Robin Van Persie. From here we hijacked the proposed Liverpool deal and were heavy favourites for his signature. For the last week the deal has been 'done' or so they say. On Monday, Sahin was expected at Colney to put the finishing touches on the deal and it was expected to be announced on Tuesday. Since then there has been a hold-up. Madrid were not happy with the buy-out fee and wanted 14mil. People reported that it had been sorted but clearly it has not been. Today reports are completely split. Marca reported last night that he was on his way to Arsenal. This morning they say he is off to Liverpool. In the meantime, Sky Sports in Germany have said he passed a medical with Arsenal today and the deal is expected to be announced in the next 24 hours. The Daily Mail have taken Marca's story and made it their own while The Independent have reported the story from Germany.
If the transfer doesn't happen it will be heart wrenching. We have invested so much time into this deal and have been teased for the last week. "The deal is done" one reliable source said only to be proven wrong the next day. If Sahin goes to Liverpool or any one of our EPL rivals, that will be even worse. But if he doesn't join it won't be the end of the world. A midfielder will be bought in his place. I wonder if Wenger still plans to buy a DM. Sahin isn't a holding midfielder but the common consensus among fans was that we don't need one. If the midfield is disciplined without the ball and is tactically sound then we wouldn't need a specialist DM. Really hoping that we get clarity sooner rather than later.
In other news, Park is reportedly on his way to Celta Vigo in Spain on a season long loan. It hasn't gone too well for him at Arsenal. I don't even know how good he actually is. I haven't really seen much of him. Wenger did say that Park, Squillaci and Bendtner would be leaving. I guess Park will be the first.
That's about it for the day.
'Till Tomorrow
